The Questioning of Endings is a Devil Ray

On the heels of the widely disdained (to put it mildly) finale of the Sopranos, a question comes to mind- Why, if Americans need some sort of linear narrative structure, something that can be fully grasped and has a ending that is easily understandable: why is it, then, that so many Americans still support the war in Iraq? Never mind the less easily defined War on Terror? Surely, there are no simple endings here. And if the reaction to the last episode of the Sopranos is any indication, it seems most people have stopped paying attention to the war. Otherwise there would be a rush to cancel our government, not just HBO.
