Number 42 is a Devil Ray

Baseball has always been a redneck’s game and those necks are red, in part, because slavery was abolished. Having baseball celebrate Jackie Robinson’s career is akin to Germany remembering the slaughter of 6 million Jews- there is a bit of hypocrisy involved. Jackie Robinson was treated worst by baseball itself. The taunts from the stands were nothing compared to the slurs issued fom opponent’s dugouts, and those slurs were nothing compared to the cold-shoulder offered by many of his teammates. The real crime wasn’t commited against a talented player but against a man who remained kind and decent despite all that he experienced. Rather than celebrate, sometimes it’s better to forget.
